Quality Improvement plan 2025-26 now available
The Quality Improvement Plan for 2025-26 is now available. This plan demonstrates our whole systems commitment, to working with our Assurance and Improvement colleagues and likeminded agencies, to provide quality improvement in the right places at the right time. There is continued focus on targeted Quality Improvement programmes and supporting clusters of services to make the improvements needed. We will continue to build improvement capacity and capability across the lifespan.

Care Inspectorate Statistical Summary Report for Quarter 3 of 2024/25
The Care Inspectorate Statistical Summary Report for Quarter 3 of 2024/25 has now been released. This presents data on the number of registered care services, new registrations and cancellations, complaints about care services and quality theme grades all by care service type and or service sector. This is updated on a quarterly basis.

Self-evaluation tools and guidance for childcare agencies
Following the launch last year of our 'Quality framework for childcare agencies introducing and supplying childcare staff', we have now published our self-evaluation toolkit.
The purpose of our self-evaluation tools is to support services to assess how well they are doing against the key questions from our quality framework and highlight areas where they need to support improved outcomes for children.

Joint statement from the Care Inspectorate and Education Scotland on our progress towards the delivery of the new Quality improvement framework for the early learning and childcare sectors
We are delighted to announce that the new Quality improvement framework for the early learning and childcare sectors is now available on the Education Scotland website.
We have collated the most frequently asked questions (FAQs) we have received about the new framework. These are available on the Professionals area of our website and on the Education Scotland website. We hope that you find these helpful. We will continue to listen to feedback and may make further adjustments to the framework and to the FAQs ahead of full implementation from September 2025.

Annual returns go live today
The annual return is now available for services to complete between 6 January and 2 March 2025.
All service types must complete their annual returns electronically, using the Care Inspectorate’s eForms system.
