Our work is improved by involving people who use services and their carers. We have many innovative ways that people can get involved with us and can influence our work.
If you have personal experience of using a service or you have cared for someone close who has used a service there are many ways you can get involved with us. You do not have to have any qualifications. Your personal experience gives you a unique insight.
You can apply to become an inspection volunteer by completing our application form:

Self-evaluation in adult care services
Following the introduction of the Health and Social Care Standards in 2018, the Care Inspectorate began to introduce our quality frameworks and gradually withdrew the requirement for services to submit a self-assessment. The primary purpose of a quality framework is to support services to evaluate their own performance. The same framework is then used by inspectors to provide independent assurance about the quality of people’s care and support. We are now ready to expand on this approach by enhancing our methodology around self-evaluation.

Joint inspection of adult support and protection in North Ayrshire
An inspection of adult support and protection measures in the North Ayrshire area found clear strengths in ensuring adults at risk of harm are safe, protected and supported. However, inspectors also identified areas which could further improve.

Care Inspectorate statement on Allinvale House, Airdrie

Health and Care Staffing (Scotland) Act 2019 and the Care Inspectorates Safe Staffing Programme – reduced capacity
The Health and Care (Staffing) (Scotland) Act was passed by the Scottish Parliament in 2019. The work was paused to allow everyone to focus efforts on the Covid-19 pandemic. The Act will now come into force on 1 April 2024. The Act is applicable to all health and care staff in Scotland.
The Safe Staffing Programme team works in collaboration with service providers, people who experience care, relatives, representation groups and other key stakeholders. Our vision is for care services in Scotland to have the right people, in the right place, with the right skills at the right time working to ensure people experience the best health and care outcomes.
