Drive to prevent care home falls
A best practice toolkit has been launched to help manage and reduce falls and fractures in Scotland's care homes. Public Health Minister Michael Matheson today joined representatives of Scotland's social care inspectorate, Social Care and Social Work Improvement Scotland (SCSWIS) and NHS Scotland, for the launch of their ‘Managing falls and fractures in care homes for older people' resource initiative in East Kilbride.

Report on care and permanence planning for looked after children
The Scottish Children's Reporter Administration (SCRA) has published a report on Care and Permanence Planning for Looked After Children in Scotland, as part of its work with the Looked After Children Strategic Implementation Group (LACSIG).
This report looks at the pathways and decision-making processes through the care and court systems in Scotland for 100 looked after children from the point they were first identified as at risk, to the point of adoption or permanence.

Time to Live Applications Now Open
The Scottish Government has made the Short Breaks Fund available to help support and sustain Scottish carers, including young carers and kinship carers, through enabling better access to short breaks or respite care.
The Time to Live strand of the Short Breaks Fund will provide funding to voluntary organisations within local authority areas which carers and those they support can access directly to enable them to have a short break.
Applications are now open and the deadline for applying is 5pm, 8 August 2011.
