The Royal College of Nursing have produced a guide aimed at those who lead the planning, development and commissioning of services with local authorities and GPs.

A report from the National Audit Office (2009) stated that ‘80 per cent of GPs feel they need additional guidance and training to manage patients with autism more effectively’.

The vision of the Autism Act 2009 is that: ‘All adults with autism are able to live fulfilling and rewarding lives within a society that accepts and understands them. They can get a diagnosis and access support if they need it and they can depend on mainstream public services to treat them fairly as individuals, helping them make the most of their talents.’
