PainChek is an app-based solution which uses facial recognition technology and artificial intelligence to measure pain in adults that can’t reliably self-report their pain.

We are asking interested services to join the trial and contribute important evidence to inform the future of this emerging technology in Scotland.

The licences are fully funded by the Scottish Government and valid for 12 months. The test period lasts for six months during which you will be asked to provide data to the project team.  For more information visit the PainChek website.

Participating in the trial requires a significant commitment from you and your team, but we anticipate substantial rewards.  Your team will gain a deeper understanding of pain and its impact, with the potential to achieve better outcomes for those in your care. Along with testing a new approach, you will trial changes to your current pain assessment practices, while collecting data to evaluate the impact for the people you support. This is also an opportunity to lead your own digital improvement project.

As we have a limited number of licences, we will prioritise services using the following criteria:

  • stable and reliable WiFi
  • the use of devices to run PainChek - either phones or tablets. Technical information is available on the PainChek website
  • provider level support
  • management and staff willingness to trial a new digital solution
  • commitment to work with the project team and provide data.

If you and your team are interested in taking part in this exciting trial, please complete this application form by Thursday 26 September.
